Artist Statement:
Located on the border between figuration and abstraction my paintings are mash-ups of painterly technique including vigorous brushwork, delicate marker lines and pours of acrylic paint. Sampling from the painters’ buffet, I am sometimes mimicking an anxious Pollock while at other times I feel like my Grandmother, embroidering the family tablecloth. I insist on work that is fiercely hand-made and physically improvised. Using painterly invention as a sign for optimism, the work is celebratory.

I have lived and worked in Williamsburg, Brooklyn since 1986. My work has been exhibited nationally and internationally for 20 years and is currently represented by Pierogi in Brooklyn, New York. I had my first solo show in New York City at White Columns in 1994. Since then I have had over 15 solo shows in New York, Houston, Boston, New Orleans, Milan and Leipzig.

I received a B.A. From Harvard University in Visual and Environmental Studies. I am a recepient of grants from the New York Foundation for the Arts, the National Endowment for the Arts and The Pollock-Krasner Foundation.

I was an artist-in-residence at The Cité Internationale des Artes in Paris, the Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown, Yaddo and Millay Colony.
