Artist Statement:
My paintings are intuitive formations of Color, in which I formulate different densities of energy, from the simple to the complex and back again constructing new aesthetic possibilities.
Although paintings occupy a very different and sacred space for me, I am interested in other areas of artistic production .For the past four years I have curated a series of exhibitions collaboration with other artists, both in Colombia and in New York.
Biography:
Maria Elvira Dieppa was born in 1961 in Barranquilla, Colombia. She lives and works in New York City and Barranquilla Colombia. Dieppa began her career in painting, collage and video more than a decade ago. She began her education in the United State in Maryland at the age of 16 and earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts in architecture and design from Parsons School of Design in 1987. She returned to New York in 1998 with her two children and has since spent part of every year between Barranquilla and New York City.
