Artist Statement:
I use my body to create live durational performances where I interact with found object sculptures and architectural spaces. Endurance, meditation, curiosity, humor, and sensuality are parts of my practice. My recent work is an exploration of the intimate relationship to self, to others and to the environment. To respect the environment I collect found materials for the sculptures. My body becomes a physical part of the sculpture. I see myself in a partnership with the sculptures/spaces.

Biography:
Macklen Mayse graduated with distinction as a Master of Fine Arts from Pratt Institute in May 2013. She is a certified Art Educator (PreK-12) and enjoyed three years of teaching elementary art in Kansas. Mayse grew up dumpster diving for treasures in Kansas and Missouri. Now she lives in Brooklyn, creating art and peace. She uses her body to create live durational performances, videos or photographs where she interacts with the sculptures and surrounding architectural spaces. She also works in puppetry. Mayse continues to perform and exhibit work in New York City.
