Artist Statement:
As a visual artist I make discrete bodies of work and they always begin with drawing – if not with ink and paper, then with a “drawing attitude”, in which am seeking the answers that I don’t already have. I start with an idea – a place – a memory – a historical event – and I gather visual and factual research into a working catalogue that I draw from and develop.

Megan Lipke was born in 1969 in Portland, Oregon and was raised in Burlington, Vermont and Cheshire, England. She received her MFA from Cornell University and has taught at The University of Northern Iowa, Cornell University and Pratt Institute in Brooklyn. Her work has been exhibited nationally and internationally and has been reviewed in Art in America, The Village Voice, The New York Times and many online publications. She has an upcoming solo show at Parallel Gallery, in the Bushwick/Ridgewood area of Brooklyn’s internationally acclaimed art scene, in January of 2014. She lives and works in the Bushwick neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York.
