Artist Statement:
My work is comprised of intense mark-making coupled with experientially collected photographic imagery. I work in a stream of consciousness fashion, deriving the inspiration for my process from surrealist and spiritualist notions of automatism. I see my work as journalistic in a sense, revealing unintended narratives unearthed from my subconscious and simultaneously reflecting the energy of the fleeting moment in time that is captured through the physical act of mark-making.

Shepard is originally from East Texas and currently lives and works in Bushwick, Brooklyn. She completed her MFA at the University of Texas at Tyler 2009 and her MS in Communications Design at Pratt in 2013. She is currently a professor at Pratt Institute and Borough of Manhattan Community College and is affiliated with Loft 594 Gallery in Bushwick, Brooklyn.
