Artist Statement:
I paint from found landscape images and insert abstract forms into the composition. I choose barren landscapes that suggest geological memory and time on a grand scale. Bifurcating color schemes heighten the tension of interaction between representation and abstraction. The abstract shapes suggest their referent, but resist interpretation. I arrange them in a way that is reminiscent of neoclassical compositional techniques. The result is an appeal to memory that continually evades resolution.
