Artist Statement:
Art is a universal language that transmits ideas without the unseen borders of audio or written communication. I am influenced by human behavior, our interaction with each other and our greater purpose. Reference is often drawn from a wide range of cultural sources & time periods. Music, literature, ancient cultures, myth and spirituality are my main inspirations while aiming to produce work which is widely relateable and will retain visual relevance despite the year it is being viewed.

Biography:
After completing academic studies Bates started his professional career in the arts as a representative for Dali watercolors and prints for private collectors in NY. Following this he worked at Felissimo Design House NY as the Creative Coordinator. During this time, Bates was also working as a freelance illustrator and exhibiting widely as a fine artist. In 2003 he moved his main studio to Buenos Aires where he founded HONEYCOMB arts to promote cross-cultural exchange between young Latin American artists and the rest of the world. He is currently the director of HONEYCOMB and continues to exhibit internationally. From 2014 onward his work and career is centered in the production of the ongoing global project "The Story of This Place" .
