Artist Statement:
My work examines the muddled juncture between conscious and unconscious, public and private. I delve into these issues by colliding my studio practice with public performances, where art objects become tools for dialogue between my inner life and a larger social sphere.

I am interested in the capacity of visual art to non-verbally communicate complex states of being. I am attracted to plugging this artistic vagueness into non-art-related situations that demand logical clarity.

Biography:
David Livingston works in drawing, sculpture and performance, often employing his large, organically shaped soft-sculptures as theatrical props in public happenings. He documents his sculptures in still-life gouaches, video and photography. He received his BFA from Kenyon College and his MFA from the Pratt Institute. He was a 2011 resident at the Vermont Studio Center and his work was featured in the Governor’s Island Art Fair in both 2011 and 2012. Livingston works as an adjunct professor at University of New Haven and Housatonic Community College in Connecticut.
