Artist Statement:

My work explores the depth of a surface and how much information can be conveyed in a finite space. I execute this exercise with varied themes: landscape and beast to pure abstraction. Place (early America, the desert), nature (Devil's Tower, Wyoming), animals, iconography and outer space are great motivators. The colors I choose are vibrant to complement the elemental drawing and also serve as a nod to pop art.

Biography:

Polly Shindler (b.1977, New Haven, CT) received her B.A. In History from The University of Massachusetts in 2001, her M.F.A. In Painting from Pratt Institute in 2011 and attended the Vermont Studio Center in December of 2013. She has shown recently in “Second Family” at 2 Rivington, “Do It Yourself” coinciding with Bushwick Open Studios, “Aggro Crag” at BOSI Contemporary, “MsBehavior” at Artbridge’s Drawing Room, and “Black Foliage” at Nudashank in Baltimore. Her curatorial projects include “One and Done” and “Future Folk Pt. 1 & 2” in Brookyn, NY. Polly was named one of “30 Artists to Watch in 2012” by NY Arts Magazine and more recently named Curator in Residence 2014-2015 at Trestle Projects in Brooklyn, NY.
